HEIC to JPG

iPhones save photos as HEIC, which many Windows programs, websites and upload forms cannot open. Convert them to JPG or PNG here – several photos at once.

LocalFile does not upload your photos – they are converted in your browser.

How it works

  1. Choose photos

Select HEIC files or drag them onto the drop area. On a Mac, they come from the Photos app or AirDrop.

  2. Choose format

JPG for small, universally compatible files, PNG for lossless images.

  3. Download

A single photo is downloaded directly; several photos are bundled in a ZIP file.

Frequently asked questions

What is HEIC?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the photo format iPhones and iPads use by default. It saves space, but many programs and websites outside Apple’s world cannot open it.

Is location data kept?

No. The photos are re-encoded, which removes embedded metadata such as GPS location, camera model and date taken. This is good for privacy when you share photos, but keep the originals if you need that information.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The photos are decoded with the open-source library libheif (via heic-to) in your browser; LocalFile does not send them to a server. The decoder is loaded only when you start a conversion.

Why does the first conversion take a moment?

The HEIC decoder (about 3 MB) is loaded only when needed. After that, conversion speed depends on your device and the photo size.
